Research:

This is the family of Lawrence Coogan, a butcher.  He was born in 
Ireland and emigrated to the United States in the late Nineteenth 
Century.  He settled in New York, New York. 

A family story tells of how Lawrence had been seeing Mary Mooney 
from Cork County, Ireland.  Upon entering the United States, he got 
a job in New York and saved up enough money for passage for Mary to 
come to the United States.  He told her what ship to take, and then 
arranged to deliver meat to that ship as it pulled into New York.  
He went on board with the meat, delivered it, and put Mary into the 
meat barrels and wheeled her off the ship!  She ended up marrying 
Lawrence and became a citizen because he had applied for citizenship 
for himself.
